Kintsugi
Acrylic on canvas. Color field works capture my attention when I see them in galleries and museums. "Kintsugi" represents my conception of this style by experimenting with light/white on canvas. The Japanese centuries-old art of Kintsugi, often translated to “golden joinery,” is one of fixing broken pottery with the dust of precious metals. Rather than camouflage cracks and broken pieces, this technique uses a special tree sap lacquer and then dusted with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. It results in beautiful seams of gold glint in the conspicuous cracks which gives not only new life to what might have been discarded, but a glowing uniqueness, too. In my "Kintsugi", the gold glint brings to like a new innocence to the light and white of the painting. Hung in the right place, the sense of the painting changes throughout the day as the light in the room changes, bringing ethereal interest and a sense of unveiling the precious golden "repairs" that evokes one's spirit on a healing journey
