When I saw this red building with the train bridge next to it, I stopped the car. Red makes me nostalgic and the intrigue of the narrow bridge was a compelling scene. The view is through the flowers and weeds along the way and the road ahead is a long journey.
Although I use graphite drawings and paper on canvas with my paintings, I think of myself firstly as a painter exploring the landscapes around me. The work is an exploration of belonging and change, and how the human experience and nature overlap.
I seek to capture the dialogue between two realms—how light and shadow play across surfaces, and how textures can evoke the feel of a place or moment. Texture plays a pivotal role in my work, whether through the layered strokes of paint or the lines of a drawing, I aim to create a tactile experience that draws the viewer in.
